Beautifully Broken

Gov't Mule started as a side project for Warren Haynes (guitar) and Allen Woody (bass) from the Allman Brothers Band. They thought it was a shame that there weren't any power trio's anymore. With drummer Mat Abs they formed Gov't Mule and released there self-titled debut album in 1995.

The band seem to be succesfull in the Jamband scene. But after Woody's death in august 2000, to two remaining members doubted if they would continu. Luckily they decided to go on with the band and not ot give it up. While having played with many replacements since then, they ended up with Andy Hess on bass and added Danny Louis on keyboard.

I liked Mule before they were a quartet, to me they played not hard rock but more a hard blues. So I was curious about how they would sound. I like them better as a quartet, they have more room for melody somehow. Danny Louis to me is one of the most gifted keyboard players out there at this moment and Andy Hess ads more to the Gov't Mule punch, or should I say kick.

I decided to upload a video to let you know what I'm talking about. This gig was recorded on the 9th of September 2005 by the legendary Rockpalast and aired on T.V.

A work in progress Update!

So, I haven't posted a lot until now because I've been busy with all kind of things. One of those things is the new design for this blog that will be situated on a different url. This blog will be a technical experiment that I'm doing for work. Not that I built the thing, my colleague Gerhard will do that.

Because most clients are wiry of trying new things and those things come into play for that client in maybe one or two years. We decided to put time in developing those things as an exercise. So, I'm in the design fase and wanted to show you something as a bit of a teaser.

Enjoy! And feel free to comment.

Truckin' in London

Just the other day I was listening to a NPR radio stream and found out that Derek Trucks was going to tour with Eric Clapton as one of Claptons band-members. "Whohoo, maybe I should go and see that" is what I thought.

Sold out

Not that I'm a Eric Clapton fan but I really do respect the guy and he's definitely one of the most gifted musicians out there. But seeing him on stage together with Derek Trucks would make it worthwhile for me.
Not to my surprise his tour is almost sold out, but on the Derek Trucks website I saw that he will be performing with his band in London.

Truckin' in London
So I ordered my tickets and I'm going to see the Derek Trucks Band in London in mayon the 24th. Wow, I'm so happy about that. Otherwise I would've had to wait a few years until he would cross the pond again.

Make a joyfull noise! Derek Trucks Band

Derek Trucks from a child prodigy to being the youngest guitarist ever to be added to the Rolling Stone magazine's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All-Time. Member of the legendary Allman Brothers Band and looked at as one of the greatest slide guitar players of all time.

Drawing inspiration not so much of other guitarist but musicians like Miles Davis, Sun Ra, John Coltrane, Charlie Christian and Wayne Shorter, clearly make him dance to a different beat.

Now to make this story short, let the man and his band speak for themselfs.

All the music in Live Music Archive is from trade-friendly artists and is strictly noncommercial. But for now one of my favorite bands, The Black Crowes, isn't on there, but many are. In this little blog I would like to point you to some classic and some non-classic. This I will do monthly. This month it will be Little Feat when the 'Rock n' Roll Doctor' Lowell George was still around.

Just as with the Derek Trucks Band article I will let the band speak for themselves via there music.

Aspirin vs Cocaine

Just a quick thought on how people can blow things out of proportion. I have this friend that, when he goes out he doesn't mind drinking. Usually he gets fairly drunk. This friend also goes to Dance/Trance parties where he not only drinks but also uses cocaine, speed and xtc.

Just the other day he didn't feel very well, he had a headache and felt a bit ill. Later that day he told me he took some aspirin and sadly enough he said it as if he was a weak person. He also mentioned how bad those aspirins are for your body.

Is it me or is he loosing his mind, afraid of something that relieves a pain he's feeling. Yet, not shy about taken numerous kind of hard-drugs in one go. Somebody needs to get there priorities straight.

Just a quick thought. Comments are welcome.
